Worms after a rainy day!

As I was pulling the trash bins in, I noticed 50+ worms stranded on the pavement. After the downpour all day today, they must have surfaced from the soil to find shelter under the trash bins. When we were little, my brother and I would put on our boots on raining day to rescue worms. Most of the time, we emptied them into our dad's plant pots. Once in a while, my brother would build a worm farm with the worms we have rescued. Fearing they may get eaten by the neighborhood peacocks or ran over by cars, I was determined to get them to a safe place. While I'm not like the typical girl who screams at the sight of insects (although I do it just so my husband can come save me), I had to geared up with gloves and shovels; my brother used to pick them wit his hand. Here's the worm family:

As you can see, the worms viewed me as a threat as well, as they try fiercely to inch off the shovel. Instead of dividing them evenly into the various composting pots that my husband and I have started over the winter for our spring tomato plants, I had to dump them all into one pot. Guess that one pot will be super rich with lots of worm by-products =D
